Don’t forget to file your taxes by Monday, April 18th

It’s the time of the year that few people look forward to—tax time.  For everyone lucky enough to be getting a refund this year, stop by Anthropologie or Free People to buy some new outfits for the summer!

Before you rush to file your taxes today, remember that you actually have three more days to get your forms turned in to the tax man.

Instead of being due on April 15, which is typically the filing deadline, your taxes are due Mon., April 18 this year.

The three bonus days come thanks to Emancipation Day, a little-known Washington, D.C., holiday that celebrates the freeing of slaves in the district.

Emancipation Day falls on Sat., April 16, but it is observed in D.C. on Fri., April 15. That prompted the IRS to extend the tax filing deadline to April 18 this year. Under the tax code, filing deadlines can't fall on Saturdays, Sundays or holidays.

Anthropologie–Outfits: Undone Ease

Spring weather is finally here and Anthropologie has unveiled a new line:

Warmer days have us focused on loosening up—we're swapping out woolen layers and heavy knits for floaty fabrics and shape-skimming silhouettes. In other words, it's all about ease.

WV’s EDISON.21 Team Connects with Pittsburgh Innovators . . . At Bakery Square!

Bakery Square is proud to be a LEED certified development and it was great to help the EDISON.21 Team by discussing this innovation and setting an example for future developers!

The EDISON.21 Project, a program dedicated to cultivating innovative thinking that leads to new business development, heads to the Pittsburgh area Thursday for its first full immersion in sustainable community design.

The EDISON.21 team, a group of 12 young adults, plus design and construction professionals, mentors and program sponsors, are slated to visit several sites that are the world’s first examples of high performance building in several categories.

The three-day tour will include stops at Bakery Square, where the group will meet and talk with developer Todd Reidbord of Walnut Capital; Consol Energy Center, the world’s first LEED Gold Certified hockey arena; and the David L. Lawrence Center, the world’s first “green” convention facility.

Walnut Capital's Next Big Development Project Waiting in the Wings

Target may be the next big thing in East Liberty, but there’s a project waiting in the wings that would bring the Highland Building back to life, along with the nearby Wallace Building.
Giving an historic building its purpose back seems more meritorious and more interesting than slapping up a giant box store... sorry Tar-zhay.
The state holds the key — a $4.5 million grant from its Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program. That money would be spent to build a parking garage between the Highland and Wallace buildings. Lack of parking has been the main reason why four developers over a decade have walked away from repurposing plans for the Highland.
