Bakery Square offers tenants an exciting lifestyle center environment in an affluent and densely populated location, with a new urban aesthetic that integrates historic architecture with new construction.
Well-positioned to draw on the nearby, desirable and well-educated neighborhoods of the East end, Bakery Square is also close to the city’s major economic engines – the universities, medical centers, and burgeoning technology and biotechnology industries.
More than 350,000 people reside within 5 miles of the site, and three of the region’s top employers are within 2 miles – UPMC Hospitals, the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University.
The mixed-use development is across the street from Mellon Park on Penn Avenue, and less than a block from the major urban commuting arteries of Fifth Avenue and Washington Boulevard.
Nearby, innovative retailers such as Whole Foods and Home Depot have established locations. Within the neighborhood, Walnut Street and Ellsworth Avenue in Shadyside are home to high-end fashion, antique stores, designer boutiques and major national retailers such as Ann Taylor, Williams & Sonoma, Pottery Barn, The Gap, Talbot’s, Banana Republic, Coach and Sephora. Additionally, Trader Joe’s has opened a new store directly adjacent to Bakery Square.

Congrats to our Anthropologie store featured on the Post-Gazette site today:
I’m obsessed with the fashions and housewares of Anthropologie because I truly feel that the style of the fashions represent my personal style. I addition, the style represents the fashionable woman I want to become. For my personal style, I’m typically drawn to solids, mostly neutrals, and patterns, such as stripes. But what I’m obsessing about at Anthropologie is the colorful array of prints and solids that I find myself wanting to wear. For instance, I can’t stop thinking about this floral jacket or this vintage-inspired dress.
Don’t miss the one-year anniversary celebration at Anthropologie on Thursday, July 14 from 7 – 9 PM right here at Bakery Square. Be sure to RSVP to anthroevents@anthropologie.com
There is once again confirmation that Pittsburgh is one of the best places to live! Also, we were excited to see Bakery Square mentioned in the Wall Street Journal!
There are a few abandoned mills along the rivers, but most seem to have been razed and replaced with office parks. The old Heinz ketchup factory on the North Side is now luxury apartments. Google does engineering and robotics research in a former Nabisco factory near Shadyside on the East End.
